This animation project critically examines the heteronormative underpinnings of girls’ love narratives in Japanese narrative artforms, situating itself within the broader discourse on the transcultural representation of female same-sex love.

Set in the 1920s, the animation engages with Japan's historical indigenisation of spiritual love that shaped perceptions of the passionate sisterhood. Drawing inspiration from Japanese new wave cinema, it employs fragmented architectural elements and visual quotes from historical forms to reveal an affect of uncertainty in a received literary history.

It follows a ghostwriter's crush on their former schoolmate who seeks escape from a patriarchal home. As the ghostwriter continues their work, adolescent memories resurface with each photo the woman sends.
